"I first heard the name Sanjay Datta at the unlikeliest of places - a rooftop in Guwahati! It was at an event I was playing at and a dj mentioned that I had to hear Sanjay play given a chance. Little did I know that he was on his way to my gig. Sadly he missed it and we've been playing this cat and mouse game to each other's shows ever since. His reputation preceded him everywhere and needless to say, I couldn't wait to hear this genius behind the decks. When I did eventually trudge over to his gig with a single-minded focus that nothing would stand in my way, I was sorely disappointed. At myself that is... for missing out on his music for so many years! Since then, I can honestly say, he is the only dj (I really mean that) in India I truly respect. Not just for always standing his ground and playing the music he believes in - a task easier said than done as a dj here, but for being the encouraging gentle giant he is for so many new djs entering the scene. He has been indefatigable in building a strong base for Electronic Music in India. Even though today, the rush of talent is happy to stand on this plinth he helped create, he is still unflinching in his efforts to keep it strong. He has turned into a good friend over the years, albeit an emotional mushpot at times. We've shared many a pessimistic moment together about the scene here, but it always ends in a laugh with Sanjay. He is the kind of contemporary and friend everybody should have. The kind who gives you that get-on-with-it-pat-on-the-back you need ever so often. Little do people know that behind that tough burly exterior lies not just a mine of talent, but a heart of gold as well"
